AirMart's First Local Love Blog!

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Being on the field at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport has proven to be a tremendous benefit both to AirMart and to our customers. Not only are we excited to better and more efficiently meet the needs of our out-of-town clients, we also get to share with them the stunning and multi-faceted city that is Lexington, KY.  As part of our efforts to provide the best customer service experience to our arriving clients, and to encourage others who may be planning a visit to the gracious Bluegrass area, we are starting a “Local Love” weekly blog. Local Love will feature interesting events, good eats, and the people and places that define the heart and soul of this unparalleled region of the United States. We're certain you will want to stay a spell.

What better way to kick off our Local Love segment, than with ‘Luminosity,’ a unique art show brought to Lexington by the Lexington Art League!  “Luminosity' promises “to brighten the dark winter nights with sculpture, installation, film, and photography” and it does not disappoint.  With two installations located downtown, not only are the pieces themselves interactive, but ‘Luminosity’ offers a new way to interact with the city of Lexington.

The signature light sculpture New Moon, is located at the heart of Lexington, in Triangle Park.  The sculpture was specially designed for ‘Luminosity’ with Lexington in mind, by Canadian artists, Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garrett who have pieces in cities like Moscow, Prague, Chicago, and Calgary.  Standing over 20 feet tall, and shining with over 5,000 bulbs that were donated by the community, it is a dazzling work to not only see, but also interact with.

Located less than two miles away from New Moon, is the ‘Luminosity’ gallery exhibit, located at the Lexington Art League’s Loudon House.  At this location, you can view sculpture, installations, photography and media, by several artists from around the world, all connecting the ideas of art and light.  While you are there, take a moment to appreciate Loudon House; it is also a Lexington treasure!

Lexington Art League's Director, Stephanie Harris says in an article in Lexington's Herald Leader "Because we do stand for art having an important function in people's daily lives, it's very important to us to be able to put our work out there for literally millions of people to see" and that 'Luminosity' is an "opportunity to consider space in a new way, to realize that the kind of work we wanted to unveil could exist outside four walls."  How did Lexington get so lucky?  Thanks Lexington Art League, for bringing these great art pieces.  The best part is, this entire project is free and open to the public, so if you are looking for a unique place to visit this spring, put Lexington and 'Luminosity' at the top of your list!
