Winter Flying Photo Contest

Wednesday, February 14, 2018

While we do take extra procautions during the winter, we won't let winter keep us from flying.  We asked our facebook followers to submit their favorite Winter Flying Photos. The one with the most votes would win $100 at Sporty's Pilot Shop.  We had some great entries as you'll see below, but only one winner! Congratulations to Matt N. for winning our Winter Flying Photo Contest.  See his photo and story below, be sure to check out the video of his frozen lake landing too. Thanks to all those who entered and we hope you all are having a wonderful winter with many fantastic flying adventures!

Frozen Lake Landing with my Daughter!

Ever since purchasing the 1975 Piper Cherokee Archer 3 years ago, I've wanted to land on the lake in front of my mothers home.  This winter, there was a period of time with about 20 inches of ice and a brief melt that smoothed everything out on top.  My daughter and I, (pictured here) inspected the landing area on a particular Saturday morning, decided conditions were perfect and went for a flight that included landed on the lake!  Put together a short 3 minute video of the flight and posted to facebook here.

Grand Teton at Sunset

Fly with Jackson hole was nice enough to not only give me and my fiance a tour of grand Teton but also a luggable 2 hour flight lesson in mountain flying. Great time and the most scenic flight I've ever taken.
