AirMart interviewed for CNN Films: Sole Survivor

Tuesday, January 7, 2014

Recently, CNN Films interviewed AirMart's Director of Sales and Acquisitions, Grant Sutherlin, for a segment on the capabilities of today's avionics. The segment will be used in the upcoming CNN Films: Sole Survivor.

CNN Films: Sole Survivor explores the complex emotional aftermath experienced by survivors of major aviation disasters. There have been 14 large airplane crashes with a lone survivor in the history of commercial aviation. One of these crashes was Comair flight 5191 which occurred on August 27, 2006 at Bluegrass Airport (LEX), Airmart's home field. Flight 5191 was assigned to runway 22 for takeoff, but used the shorter runway 26 instead. The aircraft overran the end of the runway 26 before it could become airborne. All 47 passengers and two of the three flight crew were killed.

This past December, CNN National Correspondent Rene Marsh and Photojournalist Jay McMichael arrived at LEX. They requested an interview with someone knowledgeable about current avionics, specifically avionics with superior situational awareness. Airport officials directed them to AirMart's Director of Sales and Acquisitions, Grant Sutherlin. With Ms. Marsh and Mr. McMichael on board a twin engine Cessna 340 (N340FK), Grant demonstrated the impressive capabilities of the Aspen Evolution 2000. The Evolution 2000 was recently installed in N340FK  as part of an avionics upgrade to the plane. The journalists were especially impressed with the synthetic vision of the Evolution 2000 as they taxied onto runway 22.
